The secret to hosting a successful home game, (a non-gambling play for fun game) is to simplify the game to its core. When you understand this, anyone can deal it. And when we all take a turn shooting the dice and dealing a hand (which would complete a round) that's when it really gets fun. Craps is an interactive hands on participation game.

My advice for beginner games is when each new player reaches a comfort level, meaning they no longer need the cheat sheet, is to open up the FIELD bet first. After they learn to take and pay the FIELD then the host should open up the HARDWAYS next. This brings an exciting element into the game. Once they learn the FIELD & HARDWAYS then open up 6 to 5 odds on the 6 & 8. The ANY CRAPS and HORN numbers after that. Invariably, inquiring minds will ask you (the host) about the DON’T PASS and LAY bets. In my experience hosting new players, I generally just open up the FIELD and HARDWAYS. If they ask about other bets, then tell them. If not....KISS |
